I participated in the 2004 HiTech Quest Using Technology to Problem Solve competition and ended up winning first place with my partner Makoa Jacobsen for our Kamehameha Schools Kapalama campus Cafeteria web application.

This website uses various web technologies including PHP/MySQL, RSS, and XML to accomplish the goal of presenting the daily menus on the web for the food services department. The project was originally started with the goal of simply getting the daily menu on the site automatically and therefore making the website much easier to maintain.

Right now I am undecided about my college major. Just taking my core credits at UH… At New Hope, I work as a web developer. Basically, I do the design and all updating and managing of their website, www.enewhope.org . The site gets about 5 million hits a month and is hosted in-house on an Xserve. In addition, I help take care of their online store that ships out resources from two (soon to be three) distribution sites. The store utilizes automatic credit card processing and shipping rate retrieval from UPS and Fedex.

The most important thing is that you set a goal and break that goal into pieces that will make easier to achieve. Often, people will set goals and hope that the goal will be accomplished without effort. However, goals don’t just get accomplished on their own; you have to work towards them.
