Basic Operations and Concepts

Event: The Asia-Pacific Cyber Games
Competition entrants will identify, describe and apply strategies for
identifying and solving routine hardware and software problems that occur
during everyday use.
Each Team will have the following equipment to work with:

Computer running Windows 2000 Server
-
Computer running Windows 2000 Professional. Software includes Visio 2000.

3COM Multi-port Switch
-
Category 5e Connector with punch down tool
-
Wiring Box
-
Flush Mount Wallplate
Competition tasks include the following:

Make a patch cable (10%)
-
Make a crossover cable (10%)
-
Installing a wiring box with Cat5 Connector (10%)
-
Design a network based upon a given scenario involving broadcast and collision
domains (10%)
-
Configure network settings based upon a given scenario (10%)
-
Configure users and groups (10%)
-
Configure an IIS web server (10%)
-
Configure a FTP Server (10%)
-
Set up a shared network printer (10%)
-
Set up a network firewall (10%)
HiTech Quest will award three prizes: first place ($1000 scholarship), second
place ($500 scholarship), and a third place ($250 scholarship).
In order to participate in the 2005 HiTech Quest Basic Operations and Concepts
Scholarship Competition, register your team online
using the HiTech Quest website by FRIDAY, February 4, 2004
. Registration requires names of the participating students, school name, and
name & email address of the coach (teacher/mentor). Participants may work
in a team comprised of no more tha n five students.
A registration fee of $20 is due PER TEAM. All participants will receive a
HiTech Quest Tee Shirt and various prizes on the competition day. The team's
registration forms and $20 fee (checks payable to "HiTech Quest") must be
postmarked by FRIDAY, February 4, 2005
